2027: Northern groups express interest in Aregbesola

Some Northern Nigerian political groups have expressed their love for a former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to join their political movement.
Aregbesola is regarded as a valuable politician.
Aregbesola’s political group in Osun State, Omoluabi Progressives, had a few weeks ago left the All Progressives Congress, citing ostracisation, suspension, and expulsion of members without fair hearing.
Following their exit from the APC, the New Nigerian Peoples Party and the Peoples Democratic Party expressed their desire to have Aregbesola join their parties.
The National leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, met Aregbesola at his Lagos residence last week Saturday where issues of national politics were reportedly discussed.
Similarly, the League of Northern Democrats said it would like Aregbesola to join the new political movement.
The LND has embarked on consultations and meetings with key politicians across the country to turn the group into a new political party, League of National Democrats.
Speaking with newsmen on Friday, the spokesperson for the LND, Ladan Salihu, said the group would be pleased to have Aregbesola on board.
He said, “We are not a political party yet, but we would like him to be part of our movement in 2027.
“Aregbesola is a notable and exemplary political figure. He is a fighter. He is somebody who plays politics of conscience. He does not play politics for self-aggrandisement.”
However, the Publicity Secretary of Aregbesola’s group, Abosede Oluwaseun, said, “Many political bigwigs and parties have been approaching Aregbesola to be part of them, but he has yet to give any clue of his next political move.”
