Air India escapes another disaster after mid-air scare

A major aviation disaster was narrowly avoided on Monday, June 16, 2025, after an Air India flight from Hong Kong to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency return due to a suspected technical malfunction.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had just departed Hong Kong International Airport when the pilot detected a potential issue mid-air. Exercising caution, the flight crew alerted air traffic control and aborted the journey, requesting immediate clearance to return to the airport.
The aircraft landed safely back in Hong Kong, with all passengers and crew unharmed.
The incident comes just days after a tragic crash involving another Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, which claimed 241 lives. The recent close call has heightened concerns over the safety of the airline’s Dreamliner fleet.
Aviation authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the precise nature of the technical problem. Experts say the move to return swiftly may have averted another catastrophe.
