Bago orders immediate closure of Niger varsity

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate shut down of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL), following the recent security breaches and unfortunate loss of lives within the university community.
The directive was issued by Governor Bago, who expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity affecting the campus.
He emphasized that the safety and welfare of students, staff, and residents remain a top priority for the state.
Announcing the closure in an official statement on Tuesday, Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the State Government, said the government is taking urgent measures to restore order and ensure lasting peace.
“The government is deeply saddened by the recent incidents. We urge the university community to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies during this period,” Usman stated.
He further assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing and that those responsible for the violence will be brought to justice.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, and to protecting the lives and property of all citizens in Niger State.
