Bauchi lawmaker trains, empowers 125 youths on agriculture

Member of the House of Representatives representing Darazo-Ganjuwa Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro has trained and empowered 125 selected youths on becoming full time farmers thereby promoting agriculture and ensure food security.
Speaking at the launching of the First phase of Mansur Manu Soro (MMS) Young Millionaires in Agriculture programme Weekend, he said that the 125 selected youths were empowered to make them full time farmers.
According to him, “Each of the benefiting youths received 4 bags of NPK fertilizer 15-15-15, 15kg of Faro-69 improved seeds, 4 liters of different pesticides and herbicides, the sum of N20,000 farm clearance fee and 1 spraying machine.”
He stressed that the programme is targeting the cultivation of 1-acre of land per head, with a projected harvest of 40 bags of paddy rice valued at N2m which is the current market value.
The Federal Lawmaker assured that,”The 2nd phase of the programme will come after the implementation and evaluation of the 1st phase of the programme by our team of farm extension services.”
He also donated One complete set of Massey Ferguson 375 brand of tractor to Darazo-Ganjuwa Farm Mechanization Support Initiative (DAGFAMSI) for the good use of all the registered farmers.
Mansur Manu Soro explained that the donation was an addition to the same brand of tractor he had earlier facilitated after registering the Association with relevant government agencies during the year 2020.
According to him, “Darazo-Ganjuwa Federal Constituency under my humble representation is prioritizing agricultural intervention for the betterment of our people.”
“We remain fully committed as a people to providing our qouta in bridging Nigeria’s rice deficit of 3.5million metric tonnes per year,” he added.
He stressed that, “Nigeria has the arable land to embark on rice farming all year through but it has been neglected. Our aim to raise awareness of this and make necessary adjustment.”
