The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has condemned in strong terms the brutal killing of innocent civilians in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

During a visit to the state for an on-the-spot assessment, Dr. Audi described the incident as “gruesome” and “barbaric,” and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.

“The killings of armless women and children in this unfortunate incident is not only mindless, but unacceptable,” the NSCDC boss declared. “There is no justification whatsoever for the gruesome murder of innocent citizens. These killings must stop.”

While addressing journalists and operatives during the visit, Dr. Audi emphasized the importance of scaling up intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.

“We must be very strategic, decisive, and resilient in our approach to restoring peace and order in Benue State,” he said. “All hands must be on deck. There must be maximum deployment of all special forces, counter-terrorism units, and intelligence operatives for both covert and overt operations.”

The NSCDC helmsman gave a marching order to the Zonal Commander and the State Commandant to deploy all tactical assets to every nook and cranny of the state. He noted that the directive was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s call for immediate action.

“Just as Mr. President has directed, the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to book,” Dr. Audi added. “We need to be on top of our game to make this happen.”

Dr. Audi further assured residents that the NSCDC High Command would send additional operatives and logistics to support the state command. “We are working closely with the Military, DSS, the Nigeria Police, indigenous security apparatus, and key community stakeholders to gather credible intelligence that will lead to the arrest of these criminals,” he stated.

Commiserating with the victims’ families and the people of Yelwata, Dr. Audi also extended his condolences to the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and we are committed to safeguarding lives, properties, and all critical national assets,” he assured.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Alia for the state’s support of NSCDC operations, reaffirming that, “our resolve to end criminality and restore peace in Benue remains firm and unwavering.”
