Breaking: Fire erupts on LAGFERRY boat in Lagos

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed a fire incident involving a Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) boat at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu on Thursday morning.
According to a statement by LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, the fire broke out at approximately 6:45 a.m. while the boat was en route to Victoria Island.
Emmanuel noted that upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team swiftly mobilized to the scene, working alongside LAGFERRY, boat operators, and other first responders to contain the situation.
“We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board were evacuated safely, though four passengers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,” he said.
LASWA has launched a thorough investigation in collaboration with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders to determine the cause of the fire.
“Safety remains our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing necessary measures to enhance fire prevention on Lagos waterways,” Emmanuel added.
He assured the public that ferry operations would continue as scheduled and urged passengers to remain calm and adhere to safety guidelines while using the waterways.
