Breaking: Tinubu appoints new Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a rigorous and merit-based selection process.
Ogunjimi’s appointment takes effect on March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire. His selection was finalized after a competitive assessment involving top directors of accounts in the federal civil service. The selection process included a written test, an ICT proficiency exam, and an oral interview, ensuring only the most qualified candidate was chosen.
The 57-year-old financial expert was first announced as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His appointment aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and excellence in public service.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of his duties.
