Burna Boy reacts amid Burkina Faso proposal rejection

Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, has broken his silence following viral reports that Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, turned down his offer to stage a free concert in the West African country.
Earlier reports had suggested that Burna Boy reached out with the intention of performing a free show for Burkinabè citizens—a move many hailed as a selfless act. However, Traoré allegedly rejected the proposal, citing that his country was currently focused on serious national development and had no time for distractions.
The development set the social media abuzz, with some hailing Burna Boy’s gesture and others mocking him for what they described as a diplomatic snub.
In a fiery response shared on his official platform, Burna Boy addressed the backlash from critics, expressing shock over the negativity. He accused some social media users of being quick to mock efforts they’ve never attempted themselves.
“I said I wanted to do a free show in Burkina Faso and I got a lot of positivity, but at the same time, surprisingly, some morons said unbelievably negative things that had me in shock,” Burna Boy wrote.
He didn’t hold back, calling out online trolls and influencers whose only impact, according to him, was “typing dumb comments or talking into their ring lights.”
“I’m sorry but YOU are not qualified to even speak my name if your only contribution to this world is typing dumb comments or talking into your cap ring light and phone,” he lashed out.
Continuing his rant, Burna Boy questioned how people who have done “nothing significant” for Africa or the world feel entitled to critique his efforts.
“Nobody in the history of your family tree has done anything significant—or anything at all—for any part of Africa or even planet Earth as a whole,” he added.
Burna Boy concluded by reaffirming his independence and integrity, stating that he owes no one but has always acted out of goodwill.
“I have nothing to gain from anybody, and I don’t owe anyone anything. But that never stopped me from doing the great work I do. My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore, burn in hell if you said anything negative.”
