Contradiction emerges as VDM’s lawyer denies receiving EFCC bail documents

Fresh controversy has erupted over the reported bail granted to popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), as his legal team says no official bail documents have been received from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, made this known via a post on social media, countering the EFCC’s earlier claim that the activist had been granted administrative bail. Adeyanju revealed that despite repeated demands, the legal team is yet to receive any formal documentation to that effect.
“Bail granted VDM, social media bail as we are yet to receive any bail document from the commission. We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday that we were informed about decision to grant bail,” Adeyanju wrote.
The development comes just hours after the EFCC issued a public statement stating that VDM had been offered bail following his arrest over petitions alleging financial crimes. The commission also claimed that all procedures were lawfully followed, including securing a remand order.
VDM has been in EFCC custody since Friday, May 2, and the conflicting reports have fueled public concern over transparency in the handling of his case. Many of his supporters see the delay as a deliberate attempt to keep him behind bars, despite widespread criticism and growing calls for his release.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has yet to respond to Adeyanju’s latest claim.
