Emir of Kano cancels 2025 Eid-el-Fitr durbar, gives reason

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of this year’s highly anticipated Eid-el-Fitr Durbar, citing security concerns in the state.
Speaking from his Nasarawa Mini Palace on Wednesday night, the Emir emphasized that ensuring peace and stability in Kano is far more important than holding the annual celebration. The Durbar, which was expected to mark both the end of Ramadan and his fifth anniversary on the throne, was called off after extensive consultations with Islamic clerics, elders, and other key stakeholders.
“In the interest of peace and security, and after seeking guidance from respected religious and community leaders, we have decided to suspend this year’s Durbar,” Emir Bayero stated. “Our focus should be on strengthening unity and celebrating Eid in a peaceful atmosphere.”
The Emir urged the people of Kano to use the festive period to reflect, spend quality time with their families, and uphold the values of love and togetherness that Sallah represents. He also offered prayers for Allah’s continued blessings, mercy, and guidance, hoping that the people of Kano would find forgiveness and prosperity in this sacred period.
The Eid-el-Fitr Durbar, a centuries-old tradition featuring elaborate horse parades and cultural displays, has always been a major highlight of Sallah festivities in Kano. However, with growing security concerns in the region, the decision to cancel the event underscores the Emirate’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of its people.
As Kano residents prepare for the celebrations without the usual grandeur of the Durbar, many hope that peace will prevail, allowing for a return to tradition in the years to come.
