Fan dies after Portugal’s Nations League final win over Spain

Authorities have reported the death of a fan, who fell during the second half of overtime. At the moment, only his city of residence is known.
A fan watching the Nations League final between Spain and Portugal died in Munich when he fell from the second tier above a section of the press tribune, which meant that journalists had to take a different route to the mixed zone than usual.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, at the start of his press conference after the loss to Portugal, expressed his condolences to the fan’s family.
“We want to express our condolences to the family of the fan who we have been told has passed away. In these moments we realise what is really important,” he said.
The press department of the Portuguese Federation has also expressed its condolences and later so did the Portuguese coach Roberto Martinez.
The accident occurred during the second half of extra time. The accident occurred near the commentators’ desks of the ‘RTL’ channel and the ‘DZN’ platform, which were broadcasting the match live in Germany.
A spokesman for the Bavarian police said that witnesses are currently being questioned and videos are being examined at the moment there are no indications that it could be a crime.
About the victim he said he could only report that he lived in the town of Garmisch-Pattenkirch and that it had not yet been possible to determine his nationality.
