FG gives new order on NYSC mobilisation for HND graduates

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially approved the mobilization of full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), ending years of exclusion from the scheme.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, and confirmed in a statement by Boriwo Folasade, Director of Press & Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.
According to Dr. Alausa, the decision follows discussions with the NYSC Director-General and is part of efforts to address the long-standing disparity between HND and university degree holders in terms of post-graduate opportunities.
“The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is pleased to announce the resolution of the long-standing issue regarding the mobilization of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Following a dialogue with the Director-General of NYSC, the Minister confirmed that only full-time HND graduates are eligible and can now proceed with their mobilization,” the statement read.
However, the minister clarified that the new policy applies strictly to full-time HND graduates, while part-time diploma holders remain ineligible for NYSC participation.
This landmark decision is expected to enhance the professional recognition of polytechnic graduates, bringing them closer to their university counterparts in terms of national service opportunities.
