FG launches probe into viral video alleging neglect of accident victims at Abuja hospital

The Federal Government has initiated an investigation into a disturbing viral video that allegedly shows road accident victims being neglected by medical staff at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.
The video, which went viral on social media, captures the moment a good Samaritan brought severely injured victims to the hospital’s emergency unit, only to be met with alleged indifference from staff. According to the man who recorded the footage, hospital personnel refused to assist the victims immediately, citing a lack of hand gloves.
In the video, the visibly agitated man criticized the medical team for inaction, warning that the footage would be shared widely and brought to the attention of the FCT Minister. After several minutes of confrontation—reportedly over 15 minutes, hospital staff eventually emerged and were seen helping to carry one of the victims into the emergency ward. Other injured persons were also seen limping into the unit unaided.
In a swift response, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Obadiah Gana, issued a statement on Sunday confirming that FMC Abuja has launched an internal probe to determine the facts behind the incident.
Gana disclosed that preliminary findings from the investigation contradict the claims made in the video. He said the hospital’s emergency unit was fully stocked with essential medical supplies, including gloves, resuscitation equipment, and medications at the time of the incident. He also added that there was no shortage of trolleys or wheelchairs, as alleged.
“The management is engaging all stakeholders, including on-duty staff and eyewitnesses, to ascertain exactly what transpired,” Gana said.
He reiterated the hospital’s commitment to transparency, adding that FMC Abuja maintains several feedback mechanisms, such as visible emergency contact numbers, QR codes, and dedicated email addresses to allow patients and the public report concerns directly.
