How hunger pushed me into music- Popular Nigerian singer

Nigerian musician Segun Johnson has revealed that economic hardship was the major force that propelled him into a music career.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Teju BabyFace, Johnson opened up about his humble beginnings and how the tough realities of life in Nigeria influenced his path.
When asked whether music had always been his dream or when he realized it was a viable option, Johnson responded candidly in Yoruba:
“Ebi ni, hunger ni. If you are in Nigeria, you don’t have a choice,” meaning hunger drove him into the music industry.
He went on to reflect on his early struggles, sharing that he started out as a backup singer for several top artists before opportunities eventually came his way. Johnson admitted that during this phase, it was often difficult to see some of his own clients while still performing as a backup, a humbling experience that tested his resilience.
His revelation sheds light on the difficult journey many young Nigerians face in carving out their careers amidst widespread economic hardship. Today, Segun Johnson has built a successful brand for himself with his energetic and crowd-pulling performances, inspiring many with his story of perseverance and triumph over adversity.
