Italian Club Brescia faces bankruptcy amid financial crisis

Brescia Calcio, one of Italy’s oldest football clubs, is on the brink of bankruptcy after failing to settle over €3 million in unpaid wages. The club’s financial woes have been compounded by a tax fraud scandal linked to its ownership, resulting in penalties and relegation from Serie B to Serie C. Despite ongoing efforts, no new ownership has emerged to rescue the club.
The current owner, Massimo Cellino, has been unable to clear the club’s debts, pushing Brescia toward exclusion from professional leagues. Local authorities and football officials are exploring options such as mergers with nearby clubs to preserve football in the city, though rivalries and logistical challenges complicate these plans.
Fans and players alike remain hopeful, with captain Dimitri Bisoli affirming the club’s resilience. “Brescia is not him, it is us, and that is why Brescia will never die,” Bisoli said, emphasizing the community’s determination to keep the club’s spirit alive despite the crisis.
