Mass defection hits PDP as Edo, Delta assembly speakers, lawmakers join APC

In a major political shake-up, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Agbebaku made the switch alongside several other lawmakers from the state assembly.
The wave of defections didn’t stop in Edo. In a similar move on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State House of Assembly witnessed a dramatic exodus, as 22 lawmakers, including the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, also defected from the PDP to the APC.
The mass defection from both state assemblies signals a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, further weakening the PDP’s hold in the South-South region.
