NCoS mourns officer killed in Koton-Karfe prison escape incident

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the tragic death of Senior Correctional Assistant (SCA) Shuaibu King David, who lost his life while attempting to prevent an escape at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, on March 24, 2025.
In an official statement, the NCoS described SCA Shuaibu King David as a gallant officer who stood his ground in the face of danger to safeguard the integrity of the custodial facility. His sacrifice, the Service noted, exemplifies unwavering dedication to duty and national security.
The Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Service to the late officer’s family, colleagues, and loved ones, assuring that his bravery will be forever honored.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Correctional Service is collaborating with security agencies and local communities to recapture the escaped inmates and bring them to justice. The Service has also pledged to reinforce security measures across all custodial centers nationwide to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Our commitment remains firm in ensuring the safety of our officers and the security of custodial facilities across the country,” the statement read.
As investigations and security operations continue, the NCoS urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities in tracking down the fugitives.
