NSCDC calls for deliberate sports development, describes sector as a “goldmine”

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu, has advocated for strategic and deliberate investment in sports development within the Corps, describing the sector as a “goldmine” capable of restoring pride and national recognition to the organisation.
Dr. Odumosu made this assertion while receiving the Acting Commandant of Sports, NSCDC National Headquarters, Deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) Oladipo Lawal, during a courtesy visit to his office in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
According to him, “Sports in the Corps is a goldmine. It is one of the units that has over time brought glory to the NSCDC. We’ve had officers proudly flying the national colours at international competitions. It’s time we revive that legacy.”
The FCT Commandant, who once served as the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, reflected on his pride in the achievements of NSCDC athletes.
“It was a thing of pride for me then, as the National PRO, when we had national athletes from the Corps representing the country,” he said. “Those were the glory days, and we need deliberate efforts now to take us back to that level.”
Dr. Odumosu stressed the importance of discovering and nurturing new sporting talent across the country. “New personnel are evolving, and we must harness the talent of our young sportsmen and women. We need to discover new talents and develop them to position the Corps for greater heights.”
He further charged the Acting Sports Commandant to prioritize service and discipline in his new role. “I congratulate you on your appointment,” he said. “But remember, efficiency must come before personal gain. Learn from your predecessors’ mistakes and let your passion drive you toward success.”
“There are no limits to what you can achieve,” he added. “Just be proactive and determined. Your passion for the job is the key to your success.”
Dr. Odumosu also pledged support for sporting initiatives under the new leadership, especially in terms of security arrangements during competitions. “Whenever the need arises, be assured that we will provide security support for all your sporting events.”
In response, DCC Oladipo Lawal thanked the FCT Commandant for his unwavering support of sports in the Corps. “Your passion for sports, even from your days as National PRO, is well-known. You’ve always been a Commandant of Commandants,” he said.
Lawal noted that the visit was aimed at seeking collaboration and support to reposition the sports unit of the NSCDC. “This visit is about partnership,” he explained. “We want to move the sports unit forward, and your support will be instrumental in achieving that goal.”
