Panic in Lagos as 2-storey building under construction collapses

A major disaster was averted on Monday afternoon when a two-storey building under construction collapsed at No. 3 Craig Street, off Apata Road, in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 1 p.m., sent residents into a state of panic, but miraculously, no casualties were recorded.
Eyewitnesses say the collapse happened during a concrete decking operation. Workers on site, along with members of the nearby Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Liberty Parish, managed to flee the scene before the structure gave way. Although the falling debris partially damaged the church building, all worshippers inside escaped unharmed.
Confirming the development, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said preliminary investigations revealed that no one was trapped beneath the rubble.
“Thankfully, there were no injuries or fatalities. The incident occurred during the concrete decking process,” he said.
Emergency officials have since cordoned off the site to prevent further danger and allow for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
