Prominent PDP leader, son shot dead

Tragedy struck late Tuesday night in Lile village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, as armed gunmen attacked the residence of a prominent businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, killing him and his son.
According to Sahara Reporters, “Sources in the community said the assailants stormed Kpotun’s home under the cover of darkness in what is suspected to have been a botched abduction attempt.” Both the PDP chieftain and his son were shot dead on the spot.
“The gunmen also targeted another nearby household, where at least one more person was reportedly killed during the raid”— Sahara Reporters reports.
The latest incident has left residents in fear and mourning, especially as it comes just weeks after a similar wave of violence rocked Patigi and the neighboring community of Ndanaku on June 3. During that coordinated attack, two people including a well-known pharmacist were killed in a hail of bullets shortly after Muslims had finished the evening Ishai prayers.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the Kwara State Police Command.
