Rivers crisis: Peter Obi urges leaders to prioritize welfare of the poor

Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, has called on the warring leaders in Rivers State to prioritize the welfare of the poor.
In a recent tweet, Obi expressed concern that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State is a stark example of how democracy is failing to serve the people.
Obi lamented that despite 60 years of independence and nearly 30 years of uninterrupted civil rule, Nigeria’s democracy remains marred by undemocratic practices and values. He noted that the country’s elections are often flawed, serving the interests of a select few rather than reflecting the true will of the people.
The Labour Party candidate appealed to the leaders involved in the crisis to reconsider their positions and reflect on the impact of their actions on the people of Rivers State. He emphasized that the real losers in the crisis are the ordinary people, whose welfare and future are being neglected.
Obi also called on well-meaning Nigerians and the Federal Government to intervene and restore normalcy in Rivers State.
He reiterated his commitment to advocating for the well-being of the people and praying for a better future for them. In his words, “A new Nigeria is possible!”
