Rivers govt suspends all political appointees

The Rivers State Government has suspended all political office holders and appointees across the state, effective immediately.
This directive, issued on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, follows the authority vested in the state’s Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, by President Bola Tinubu.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator confirmed that the suspension affects key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, all Commissioners, Chairmen and members of boards, agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals, as well as all Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants.
The affected officials have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Where a Permanent Secretary is unavailable, the most senior Director or Head of Administration will take over responsibilities.
This sweeping decision marks a significant shake-up in the Rivers State Government, reinforcing the Administrator’s authority over the state’s affairs.
