Rivers LG administrator resigns

The Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, Goodluck Ihemnacho, has formally resigned from his position.
Ihemnacho, who was among the 23 local government administrators appointed by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), tendered his resignation in a letter dated June 20, 2025.
In the letter, which has since gone viral on social media, Ihemnacho said he was stepping down in order to return to the private sector. He expressed deep appreciation to the Rivers State Government and the people of Ahoada East for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been an honour to serve the good people of Ahoada East from April 11 to July 20, 2025,” he wrote, noting that his decision was based on personal considerations.
While the former administrator did not disclose further details, there is growing speculation that his resignation may be linked to plans to participate in the upcoming local government elections. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
Ihemnacho’s resignation comes amid political realignments within the state, as stakeholders gear up for the next phase of grassroots governance.
The Rivers State Government has yet to announce a replacement as of the time of filing this report.
