Stop studying useless courses – Odumeje sparks debate with advice to Nigerian students

Controversial Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has once again stirred public debate with a bold statement targeting Nigerian university students and their course choices.
In a viral video currently making the rounds on social media, Odumeje is seen addressing his congregation during a church program, urging Nigerian youths especially those from less privileged backgrounds to be intentional about their academic pursuits.
According to the self-styled “Indaboski,” certain university courses are “useless” and should be avoided entirely, especially by students who do not come from wealthy families.
He listed courses such as Sociology, Political Science, History, and Library and Information Science as examples of what he called “non-profitable degrees” in today’s economic climate.
While Odumeje is no stranger to controversy, his latest comments have generated a flurry of reactions online. Many netizens surprisingly agreed with his take, arguing that the Nigerian job market rarely rewards graduates from such fields unless they have powerful networks or exceptional luck.
However, others condemned the pastor’s remarks as dismissive and disrespectful to people who have pursued and succeeded with those degrees.
Despite the backlash, the clergyman has promised to continue his list of so-called “useless courses,” teasing more revelations in the coming weeks.
