Late gospel singer and ordained pastor, Bolaji Olarewaju widely known as Big B was laid to rest on Wednesday, May 28, in Ibadan, Oyo State, following an emotional series of events celebrating his life and legacy.

Big B, a revered figure in Nigeria’s gospel music scene and a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), passed away at the age of 50. His final resting place is the All Souls’ Private Cemetery in Ido, Ibadan, where family, friends, gospel ministers, and fans gathered to pay their last respects.

In the days leading up to his burial, a night of praise and testimony was held in his honour on May 26 and 27 in Lagos and Ibadan, drawing a large crowd of worshippers, fellow ministers, and well-wishers. The events featured soul-stirring tributes from some of Nigeria’s most prominent gospel artistes, including Dunsin Oyekan, Tosin Bee, Mike Abdul, Bidemi Olaoba, Beejay Sax, Gbenga Adenuga, Yetunde Are, Bois Olorun, and Akintayo.

The ministers hailed Big B as a passionate worshipper and bridge-builder in the gospel community. Many shared stories of his selflessness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to uniting people across denominations and backgrounds.

At the funeral service on May 28, Bishop T.V. Adelakun delivered a heartfelt message, urging attendees to live impactful lives, just as Big B did.

“Life is too short. Some live a hundred years but make no particular impact in any endeavour. Life is about donation, not duration. We must all strive to leave this world better than we found it,” he said.

Other clergymen in attendance included Bishop Femi Emmanuel, Pastor Austin Ologbese, Pastor Femi Oduwole, and Pastor Sola Oludoyi, who each echoed the call for Christians to live intentionally and purposefully.

During the tribute session, Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi described Big B as “family,” and praised his dedication to the Gospel and unity in the body of Christ.

“Bolaji was family to me. He was deeply passionate about the body of Christ and the advancement of the Gospel. His passing is a rude shock, but in all things, we must thank God. He has played his part, and we must emulate his passion and generosity,” she said.

Renowned gospel artiste, Tope Alabi, also paid tribute to the late minister, urging fellow believers to lead lives worthy of eternal reward.

“This is a painful loss for the body of Christ, but we must continue to glorify God because Big B loved Him. He lived for God and left an indelible mark by touching lives. My charge to the rest of us is: How do we want to be remembered? We must let love lead and do all we can to advance Christ’s kingdom,” she said.

Big Bolaji is survived by his wife and two children. Though his life was cut short at 50, many say his legacy of worship, love, and unity will continue to inspire generations in the body of Christ.
