Transfer: Carreras sets to become Real Madrid’s 3rd signing

Real Madrid have identified Alvaro Carreras as their third and final signing ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, with negotiations ongoing to bring the Spanish left-back in from Benfica in time for the tournament in the United States.
Following the additions of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Los Blancos are now working to finalise the arrival of Carreras, according to Marca.
The move is expected to be completed before 10 June, when the international transfer window closes for the competition.
The club had hoped to reach an agreement with Benfica last week, but talks have stalled due to the Portuguese side’s firm stance. Benfica have insisted on the full release clause of €50 million, a figure Madrid are looking to reduce.
Regardless, the Lisbon club will be required to disclose the financial details of the operation. Carreras has been chosen to strengthen a backline that has suffered multiple injuries throughout the season.
His signing will provide Xabi Alonso with a key reinforcement ahead of Madrid’s campaign in the United States.
If completed, the 22-year-old will join a defensive unit looking to bounce back from a difficult year and help the European champions pursue another piece of silverware on the global stage.
