Trump speaks on Russia-Ukraine peace deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that Russia and Ukraine are “very close to a deal,” with most of the major issues already resolved — sparking fresh hope that an end to the prolonged war may be in sight.
Speaking shortly after arriving in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, Trump called on top-level officials from both nations to meet urgently and finalize the agreement, declaring that it’s time to “stop the bloodshed.”
Taking to his Truth Social platform, the U.S. President described the day as productive, writing, “Good day in talks and meetings with Russia and Ukraine. They are very close to a deal, and the two sides should now meet, at very high levels, to finish it off. Most of the major points are agreed to. Stop the bloodshed, NOW.”
He added, “We will be wherever is necessary to help facilitate the END to this cruel and senseless war.”
The conflict, which began in 2022, has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, while triggering global economic and humanitarian crises. Despite multiple failed attempts by world powers and international bodies to broker peace, Trump’s latest intervention has sparked cautious optimism across diplomatic circles.
In recent days, Trump had openly expressed frustration over the slow pace of negotiations, even criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for what he termed as “stalling.” In an earlier post on Wednesday, he urged Zelenskyy to “get it done,” suggesting Ukraine’s position in the talks was weakening.
With Trump’s renewed push, many are watching closely to see if this could finally mark a breakthrough in one of the world’s most devastating and drawn-out conflicts in recent history.
