VIDEO: Edo man calls out Obaseki for failing to fix waterlogged road after 8-year

A frustrated Edo State resident has taken to social media to express his discontent over the deplorable condition of a road in his community, which he claims has been neglected by the state government despite promises of repair.
In a video that has now gone viral, the young man directly addressed Governor Godwin Obaseki, accusing him of ignoring the poor state of the road for the past eight years.
The resident, visibly agitated, walked through the waterlogged street, with the floodwater reaching his knees. He lamented the damage the persistent flooding has caused to his personal belongings, including his university credentials and WAEC original certificate, which he says have been destroyed due to the constant water inundation.
He stated, “I voted for you eight years ago, and you refused to fix this road,” while highlighting the discrepancy between the governor’s claims of road repairs across Edo State and the actual condition of his neighborhood. The man insisted his complaints were not politically motivated, even though the video surfaced just days before the upcoming Edo governorship election.

Gombe: Inuwa shares administration’s success story

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has given insights into his administration’s strides during the opening of a two-day retreat for members of the Jigawa State Executive Council and top government officials in Gombe.
Drawing inferences from peer learning and sharing of best practices on Wednesday, the Governor outlined key milestones of his government, including the Network 11-100 road project, the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, healthcare reforms and urban renewal through digitized land administration.
He also spoke on the State’s consistent ranking as Nigeria’s top state for ease of doing business and the Gombe Goes Green (3G) initiative.
On public service reforms, he noted the establishment of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms and a biometric attendance system, which have improved accountability and efficiency in the civil service.
“As we come together to explore innovative governance and transformative leadership, I am reminded of the importance of peer learning and the sharing of best practices.
“In Gombe State, we have also made significant strides in various sectors, and I am confident that some of our experiences could provide valuable lessons and inspirations for Jigawa State.
“These successes and experiences include investment promotion (where Gombe is ranked number 1 position in ease of doing business), infrastructure development (through our network 11-100 project), the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, health sector transformation (through the construction and equipping of hospitals, PHCs, and provision of affordable health services), urban renewal (through our digitised land administration system), environmental sustainability (through the Gombe Goes Green (3G) Project that targets the planting of million trees annually), as well as massive agricultural sector development.
“On public service reforms, we established the Bureau of Public Service Reforms to drive transformation within the civil service.
“One of our key achievements has been the introduction of a biometric attendance system, which has effectively addressed issues such as ghost workers, absenteeism, and redundancy. These reforms have enhanced efficiency, accountability, and productivity across the civil service, thus setting a strong foundation for sustainable governance”, Governor Inuwa Yahaya remarked.
The Governor described the choice of Gombe for the Jigawa retreat as recognition of the state’s progress and a reflection of their deep historical and cultural ties.
In his remarks, the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, praised the peaceful atmosphere and rapid development of Gombe, stating that the theme of the retreat, “Ascending the Peak: Achieving Greater Jigawa Vision Through Innovation and Transformative Leadership,” aims to deepen officials’ commitment to governance excellence.
He explained that the choice of Gombe was driven by a conviction that the state’s development trajectory serves as a valuable model for Jigawa.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the quality of facilitators chosen for the retreat, noting that their expertise would provide valuable insights to address governance challenges and enhance service delivery.
He reiterated his belief that the retreat would serve as a platform for reorienting government officials toward greater synergy, efficiency, and impact.
The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, described the retreat as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and leadership skills, underscoring the importance of government officials driving impactful policies.
The event also featured goodwill messages from the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly and development partners. END

Gombe community laments lack of basic amenities, appeals for educational support

The people of Galdimari, a community within the Gombe metropolis but administratively under the Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, have raised serious concerns over the deplorable state of education and lack of basic social amenities in their area.
Community leaders have called on the government and well-meaning individuals to intervene, as children are forced to learn under trees, in a mosque, and at the palace of the village head due to the absence of structured classrooms.
Our Correspondent reports that as the sun shines mercilessly over Galdimari, dozens of children sit on the bare ground under the shade of trees, receiving their lessons while others gather inside the mosque and the palace of the village head, using whatever space they can find to continue their education.
Our Correspondent reports that as the sun shines mercilessly over Galdimari, dozens of children sit on the bare ground under the shade of trees, receiving their lessons while others gather inside the mosque and the palace of the village head, using whatever space they can find to continue their education.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Chairman of Galdimari Community Development Association, Alhaji Hamisu Abdullahi, lamented the government’s neglect of the area.
He explained that at the time the government speaks of meaningful development, it is truly disheartening that Galdimari Community has no properly built primary school, no healthcare facility, no roads, and no clean drinking water.
Hamisu who described education as not a privilege but a right of every child, noted that in line with their commitment to the education and welfare of people, the community has recently purchased a piece of land designated for the construction of a primary school but lack the resources to commence building the classrooms.
In the same vein, the Chairman of the Galdimari Youth Development Forum, Hamza Danladi, made an emotional appeal to government authorities and stakeholders.
He said, “Right now, as we speak, children are learning in inhumane conditions. Imagine the future doctors, engineers, and leaders of tomorrow sitting on the ground, struggling to concentrate in the scorching sun. How can they compete with their peers in well-equipped schools?”
He called on the Local Government, the Gombe State Government, and their elected representatives particularly Senator Danjuma Goje and Hon. Usman Bello Kumo to take immediate action as democracy is about providing for the people.
The Galdimari community, known for its unity and self-reliance, has carried out several community development projects, including the entrance bridge without government support, However, the leaders insist that education should not be left solely in the hands of the people.
They are also calling on philanthropists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international donors to step in and support their cause.
When contacted via telephone, the Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Aisha Umar Maigari, confirmed that the ministry has included the community in its 2025 work plan and commended our correspondent for his dedication to promoting education in Gombe.

Reps invite customs boss, others over refusal to retire

House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has invited the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service, Ademola Adeniji, to appear before it on Tuesday, February 19, 2025.
The call is to answer a petition before it over the refusal of some top officials of the service to leave the service after their due retirement dates.
Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation had petitioned the 10th House alleging that some Assistant Comptrollers and Comptrollers were due for retirement but have blatantly refused to leave the service. They named the affected officers as Imam, Umar and Egwu, all Assistant Comptrollers and Awe, Fatia and Faith, Comptrollers as the culprits.
The House noted that the CG has a duty as a public officer to explain to Nigerians what the true position is.
“Nigerians deserve to know the truth of the matter and it is only the CG that can clarify the situation. We are elected to serve the people and ensuring that all government agencies function effectively is part of that service. In this era when most of our youths are looking for job, it will be wrong for the older ones who are due for retirement to refuse to go,” Mike Etaba, Chairman of the Committee on Public Petitions, said.
“That is not to say we shall take sides, far from it. We treat each case on merit ensuring that justice is given at all times to the deserving,” he added.
In a related development, the Committee has threatened to order the arrest of the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Identity Management Commission, NIMC if she fails to come in person to answer charges on refusal to pay for state of the art software development project installed and deployed to the commission by a private firm, Truid Limited.
Truid Limited is alleging a breach of license agreement by NIMC. According to E. R. Opara, counsel to Truid Limited, the agreement is premised on an arrangement whereby the Truid Limited funded, developed and deployed tokenization system without any financial obligation from NIMC. Truid was to get returns on her investment through patronage of service providers and the proceeds shared on an agreed ratio. This was to run for an initial period of ten years from 2021 when the software was deployed.
According to the petition, things were going on smoothly until the appointment of the new DG of NIMC who has been trying to truncate the agreement.
Reacting to the submissions of the counsels of both the petitioners and the respondents, Chairman of the Committee, Mike Etaba frowned on the continuous absence of the NIMC Director General despite several invitations.
“If she fails to show up at the next hearing of this case, we’ll have no option than to ask the Inspector General of police to bring her. How can an official of government treat constituted authority with such levity? We can no longer condone such attitude”.
