VIDEO: Emotion as Segun Olowookere meets Adeleke

In a touching moment that has captured the attention of many, Segun Olowookere, the man once sentenced to death for ‘stealing a fowl’, was seen paying a heartfelt tribute to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during a public function.
A video circulating on social media shows Olowookere fully prostrating to greet Governor Adeleke, expressing deep gratitude for the governor’s act of mercy that saved his life. The scene, filled with emotion, highlights the profound impact of Governor Adeleke’s decision to grant him a second chance.

Olowookere’s journey from despair to hope began in 2014 when he was sentenced to death by hanging for stealing poultry and other items in Osun State, a punishment many criticized as excessively harsh. After spending over a decade on death row, his case resurfaced, prompting public appeals, including a plea from his mother.
On December 26, 2024, Governor Adeleke exercised his prerogative of mercy, pardoning Olowookere alongside 52 other inmates based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
As the video continues to spread online, many Nigerians have lauded the governor for his fairness and humanity, with some calling for broader reforms in the judicial system to ensure proportional sentencing for non-violent offenses.
