Police deploy 6,756 personnel for Adamawa LG poll

The Adamawa State Police Command has mobilized a substantial force of over 6,756 officers to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming Adamawa Local Government elections.
According to the police command’s spokesperson, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, a total of 6,756 personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the Adamawa Local Government elections. He further revealed that each polling unit will have a dedicated team of police officers and personnel from other security agencies.
He emphasized that the deployment of security personnel to each polling unit is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing any potential breakdown in law and order, and ensuring the protection of lives and properties.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Nguroje, he said that the police have banned activities of all local security groups during the election.
Part of the statement read, “The Adamawa State Police Command in conjunction with sister security agencies reiterate our commitment towards ensuring a conducive and enabling environment for the Adamawa State Local Government Chairmanship and Councilorship Elections on 13/7/2024.’’
“On the strength of that, the Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris engaged in tactical meetings with Various Security Commanders and made strategic arrangements and decisions to achieve a credible electoral process in the state.
“All local security groups like hunters, vigilantes, civilian JTF amongst others are restricted from carrying out election activities.”
The police further restricted the movement of vehicles and warned that persons hanging around polling units after voting would not be tolerated.
“All voters are enjoined to go back to their respective homes after casting their votes and await the declaration of election results,” he maintained.
The Commissioner of Police has charged all police personnel and other law enforcement agencies involved in the election to adhere strictly to the relevant laws and regulations governing the electoral process.
He also appealed to all residents of Adamawa State to collaborate with security personnel and provide prompt information to the police, playing an active role in supporting the maintenance of peace and order.
