UNICEF empowers children through media partnerships

In a bid to amplify children’s voices and promote their development, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Bauchi field office is collaborating with media broadcast stations to create a platform for children to express their needs and concerns.

Umar Muhammad Shira, a Communication Working Partner coordinating the implementation, explained that through this innovative approach, children are now anchoring segments of radio and TV programs, sharing their views on critical issues affecting their lives, such as nutrition, health, security, education, and rights protection.

“This initiative aims to enable children to speak for themselves, promoting their cognitive thinking and empowerment.”, he said.

Shira emphasised that media plays a vital role in information dissemination, sensitisation, and mobilisation for positive action, particularly in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He urged media stations to see this partnership as a call to duty, offering their platforms for the survival and development of children.
