The president acknowledged the challenge of achieving national consensus on various issues but emphasized the importance of such decisions for the country’s advancement.
Concluding his official engagements in China, President Tinubu met with the Nigerian community and members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO China) at the China World Hotel. He described his trip as highly successful and beneficial.
In his discussions with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, as well as during his participation in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Tinubu focused on enhancing collaboration in sectors such as infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, green economy, and mining.
Addressing Nigerians in China, President Tinubu stressed the importance of representing Nigeria positively and being exemplary citizens.
He highlighted the need for discipline and dedication, using China’s disciplined society as a model for Nigerians.
The President urged Nigerians abroad to embrace their diversity, adhere to local laws, and project a positive image of their country.
He said:
“Nigeria is going through reforms, and we are taking very bold and unprecedented decisions. For example, you might have been hearing from home in the last few days about fuel prices.
“But, can we help it? Can we develop good roads like you have here? You see electricity being constant in quantity and quality. You see water supply, constant and running, and you see their good schools. And we say we want to hand over a banner without stain to our children?
“What is the critical part to get us there if we cannot take hard decisions to pave the way for a country that is blessed and so talented?”.
