IPMAN: ‘’We’re ready to sell petrol at cheaper price If….’

A senior official of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Gillis-Harry, has stated that if marketers can purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from Dangote Refinery at ₦766 per litre, the product could be sold at a significantly lower price than the current rates set by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

In an interview, Gillis-Harry explained, “If we can get petrol from Dangote Refinery at ₦766 per litre, we could sell at around ₦790 in Lagos, while in the far northern regions, the price might rise to ₦820 per litre due to transportation costs.”

However, he clarified that his group, IPMAN, is not yet aware of the official price at which fuel will be sold by the Dangote Refinery.

“Right now, we are paying NNPC ₦870 per litre, so if we can get it at ₦766, it would be a much cheaper option, and we would definitely prefer to buy from Dangote,” he said.

He also emphasized that the final retail price would not be determined by any single entity but would involve discussions among key stakeholders. “We can’t set the price unilaterally. We will work it out collectively, presenting our case for a fair price to Nigerians.”

Despite their willingness to collaborate, Gillis-Harry expressed frustration that Dangote Refinery has yet to engage with IPMAN. “We are ready to support Dangote, but they haven’t approached us. I manage over 6,000 retail outlets, and we are the people they need to reach out to,” he added.
