HADI blasts HURIWA over stance on Zamfara governance

The Hope Arewa Development Initiative (HADI) has rubbished the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) for its handling of allegations against former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.
HADI’s National Coordinator, Dr. Adamu Mohammed, expressed disappointment in HURIWA’s dismissal of Governor Dauda Lawal’s claims of bandit sponsorship and financial mismanagement against Matawalle.
Mohammed argued that HURIWA’s actions raise concerns about its allegiances and motivations, prioritizing partisan politics over genuine human rights advocacy.
“HURIWA’s response is puzzling and troubling. Instead of calling for an investigation, they’ve chosen to defend a political figure,” Mohammed said.
Governor Lawal has initiated various projects to address Zamfara’s challenges, including:
– Declaring a state of emergency in education
– Renovating infrastructure
– Recruiting civilians for a joint task force against insecurity
– Banning illegal mining activities
HADI praised Lawal’s efforts, citing his commitment to community-based solutions and addressing root causes.
“HURIWA should maintain independence and hold all parties accountable, rather than acting as a cheerleader for political figures,” Mohammed added.
The organization urged other civil society groups and citizens to remain vigilant against misleading information and partisan politics.
