Woman found dead after visiting online male friend

In a tragic incident in Asaba, Delta State, a 23-year-old woman named Precious Yusuf was found dead on the streets after visiting a male acquaintance she had met on a dating site.
Her body was discovered on DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club, according to the Delta State Police Command.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the corpse was found on Thursday morning. He detailed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division Asaba, CSP Rex Abiodun, received a distress call around 8:40 am and quickly mobilized officers to the scene.
“Upon receiving the call, CSP Rex Abiodun and his team arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the young lady,” Edafe stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf had informed a friend on October 22, 2024, of her intention to meet a male friend she connected with on a dating website. She had left her home to visit this acquaintance in the Coka area. The following morning, at around 7:30 am, she called her friend to inform her she was on her way back home, but that was the last time anyone heard from her.
Her body has since been deposited at a morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured the public and Yusuf’s family that justice will be served. He also issued a cautionary message to young women, urging them to be cautious when meeting people, especially those encountered through social media or dating platforms.
“The Commissioner advises young women to be vigilant about the company they keep and exercise caution when interacting with strangers met online,” Edafe concluded.
The police are currently investigating the case, seeking to bring the perpetrator to justice.
