Tinubu nominates 2 prominent Nigerians for INEC key roles

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) representing Ondo State, while also putting forward Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur for the role of National Commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North West.
These appointments were disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Monday.
Ibiyemi, a 58-year-old lawyer from Ilaje in Ondo State, currently serves as INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos State. She brings a wealth of experience in electoral administration, holding degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University, where she graduated in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988, and a Master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University, Nasarawa State. She will be filling the position previously held by ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the REC in Ogun State.
In a parallel nomination, President Tinubu has selected Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur, 59, as a National Commissioner for INEC. Tukur holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, England, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University. With over two decades at INEC, Tukur has served in numerous roles since joining in 1999, ultimately rising to become Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics before his retirement in December 2023.
Both nominees will undergo Senate screening and confirmation hearings in the coming days. If confirmed, Ibiyemi and Tukur are expected to strengthen INEC’s leadership and oversight capabilities, a critical step toward upholding electoral integrity and efficiency in Nigeria.
