State commissioner resigns after cabinet reshuffle

Engr. Muhammad Diggol, the Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, has officially resigned from his position following his reassignment to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Sources revealed that Diggol did not provide a specific reason for his resignation.
However, insiders close to the former commissioner suggest his decision was driven by political factors.
A source who spoke under the condition of anonymity revealed that Diggol was reportedly dissatisfied with his redeployment from the Transportation Ministry, a portfolio considered more prominent, to the less influential Project Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry. Additionally, the source hinted at mounting tensions over Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s perceived dominance in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
“He felt spited by the reassignment and believed it was politically motivated. His resignation was also a strategic move to maintain his integrity and avoid the risk of being sacked,” the source disclosed.
Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation, acknowledging Diggol’s contributions to the state. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor expressed gratitude for Diggol’s dedication, commitment, and exemplary service as part of the state’s executive council.
Diggol, the founding Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), had served as Commissioner for Transportation since the administration’s inception in 2023 before his recent redeployment.
Governor Yusuf extended his best wishes to Diggol, emphasizing hopes for his success in future endeavours.
