Meet Meranda, newly inaugurated Lagos speaker

Lagos State House of Assembly members impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on Monday, January 13, 2025, citing multiple statutory and financial infractions.
Obasa’s removal led to the appointment of his deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, as the new Speaker.
Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1, boasts an impressive political career, having served as the Chief Whip and Deputy Speaker of the House.
Meranda’s background is marked by her experience in various roles, including Senior Special Assistant and Supervisor for Health at Apapa Local Government.
Her legislative journey began in 2015, and she has been a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly since then.
The impeachment and subsequent appointment of Meranda as Speaker mark a significant development in Lagos State politics.
