The expulsion of Precious Mbakwe, a controversial Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) student, has sent the social media abuzz.

Mbakwe made headlines on Nigeria news reports after a viral video showed her physically assaulting a male lecturer for interrupting her video recording. The footage ignited debates, with many calling for disciplinary action.

Following the incident, the university management initially stated that an investigation was underway to determine the facts. However, in a new development, UNIZIK has now confirmed Mbakwe’s expulsion.

A statement from the school authorities officially announced her dismissal, emphasizing that the decision was based on gross misconduct. She has also been directed to return all university property in her possession.

The news of her expulsion has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with netizens sharing diverse opinions on whether the punishment was justified.

Read some netizens’ reactions below;

Pat Simeon: That’s very good let her stay at home and continue disrespecting and biting her family members there.

Sunday Adenrele: Tiktok and Facebook monetization is sufficient for her to live a good life until marriage. LOL. You cannot serve two masters.

Lauren: What she did is wrong but am pitying her, dey for just give her suspension and hopes she corrects herself next time. Omooh 300l chaiii.

Prowess Auta: No university in Nigeria should admit her.

@Eno Beke: How can we jointly expel those that supported her from this great country?

@Sola Fasure: This is bullshit and will be thrown out by the court. It has already violated the principle of fair hearing.
Expelling a student is a long process, not on “The Ag Vice Chancellor has received…”.
There has to be a proper trial by the SDC, witnesses will be called and she would be giving opportunity to defend herself.
This process – the invitation, hearing and decision – will take months, not days.

@R Atanda Quadri: Where are the apologists of inanities?? Good riddance to bad rubbish.God bless the management of Unizik for upholding sanctity and sanity.The human rights activists can now take over since they always need cases to justify their grants and fundings.

@Ebun-Olu: Too stringent.
Rustication for a period of time, demand for public apology and undertaking for good behavior should have been better options.
While not approving her rude behavior, the university should be mindful of how decisions impact on people’s career and destiny.
And I doubt if the VC has legal powers to expel a student without the due approval of the University Governing Council.
