Breaking: INEC announces date for FCT council elections

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced February 21, 2026, for elections across the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the INEC commission in Abuja.
According to the statement: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct elections in all six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, February 21, 2026, starting at 8:30 a.m., across all polling units in the FCT.”
The Commission also outlined important guidelines for the election as follows : “Only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be allowed to vote.
Voting will take place at polling units where voters are registered.
The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter verification.
No PVC, no voting.”
