Fubara to re-submit 2025 budget

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially informed the State House of Assembly of his decision to re-submit the 2025 Appropriation Bill for review and approval, following a recent standoff between the executive and legislature.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, addressed to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara requested to present the budget on March 19 or any other date within the month that the Assembly finds convenient. The governor emphasized that this move aligns with the Supreme Court’s ruling and the Assembly’s demand for a fresh presentation of the bill.
Fubara recalled an earlier attempt on March 12 to submit the budget, which was met with resistance. He and his team were denied access to the Assembly Quarters, where lawmakers were holding their session. Despite sending a soft copy of the budget notice, the Clerk of the House refused to accept the hard copy, further complicating the process.
The governor noted that while the Assembly had issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the budget’s submission, his administration was still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment and its accompanying orders. He emphasized that the court had directed all arms of government to operate within constitutional provisions, urging lawmakers to prioritize the state’s development over political conflicts.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to resolving the impasse and ensuring that Rivers State progresses without unnecessary delays. He urged the Assembly to consider his request and facilitate the budget’s approval, assuring that his administration remains focused on the welfare of the people.
