Breaking: CJN orders Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate repatriation to Kenya

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has reportedly ordered the immediate repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu to Kenya, citing the illegality of his extradition to Nigeria.
According to emerging reports, Justice Kekere-Ekun condemned the manner in which the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was brought back to the country, describing it as a violation of international law. In a formal letter addressed to the Kenyan government, she allegedly apologized for what she termed Nigeria’s “unruly behavior” in Kanu’s rendition.
The CJN, who recently assumed office, reportedly declared that she lacked the jurisdiction to preside over the case due to the controversial circumstances surrounding Kanu’s extradition.
“Nnamdi Kanu was forcefully brought back to Nigeria in violation of international law and Kenyan law. On what legal basis can I proceed with this case? It is a mockery of justice, an insult to my profession, and to the years of academic and legal expertise I have built,” she was quoted as saying.
Justice Kekere-Ekun further noted that Justice Binta Nyako, who previously handled Kanu’s trial, withdrew from the case due to its volatile nature.
“This case is a suicide mission—a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. The world is watching. Any misstep from my end will not only destroy my legacy but will also tarnish the reputation I have built over the years. I will not allow my children to be insulted around the world because of how I handle this case,” she allegedly stated.
Emphasizing that Kanu’s trial is no longer just a Nigerian matter but an international issue, the CJN reportedly distanced herself from the proceedings, signaling a major shift in the legal battle surrounding the IPOB leader.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the Supreme Court or the Nigerian government regarding this reported development.
