The whereabouts of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, remained unknown on Tuesday night as military trucks and armored vehicles moved into the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.

According to Daily Trust, the heavy military deployment came just hours after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, following attacks on oil installations.

Tensions escalated after militant groups warned of potential destruction if the Rivers State House of Assembly proceeded with Fubara’s impeachment. Shortly after lawmakers served the governor a notice over alleged misconduct, pipelines in the state were targeted in coordinated attacks.

In response, Tinubu suspended both Fubara and the lawmakers for six months and appointed a military administrator to take charge of the state’s affairs.

By nightfall, military convoys had taken strategic positions around the Government House, blocking major roads and forcing residents to rush home amid fears of a full-scale crackdown.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing security forces stationed at multiple points, with the usually busy streets near Government House turning eerily empty.

As of press time, it remained unclear whether Governor Fubara had left the premises. Sources said he had spent much of the day in meetings with his suspended cabinet members, but no official statement had been released regarding his current location.

A former commissioner, who was part of the discussions, declined to provide details, stating only that he was still in a meeting with the governor.
