Fubara reacts to Rivers emergency rule, calls for calm

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the people of the state following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, urging calm and reaffirming his commitment to democracy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Fubara described the development as an “unfortunate moment” in the state’s political history but assured residents that he remains steadfast in upholding constitutional order.

He emphasized that since assuming office, his administration has been dedicated to protecting lives, ensuring progress, and maintaining peace despite political turbulence. He highlighted his compliance with the peace terms brokered by President Tinubu, including reinstating commissioners who had resigned and implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling to restore normalcy.

“These steps were taken not for personal gains but to foster peace, unity, and stability in our dear state,” Fubara stated.

However, he blamed the Rivers State House of Assembly for frustrating his efforts, making genuine reconciliation and development difficult. Despite political disagreements, he maintained that governance had continued, salaries were paid, and key projects were being executed under his leadership.

Fubara reassured Rivers people that the state remained secure under his watch and urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

“We will engage with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” he said.

The suspended governor concluded his statement with a message of resilience, faith in the democratic process, and prayers for the state and the nation.
