Makinde backs PDP, faults Rivers emergency rule declaration

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed that governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have unanimously agreed to take legal action against President Bola Tinubu over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a newsletter numbered 110 and released early Friday, Makinde stressed the importance of defending democracy, stating, “We must choose to stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone.”
According to him, the PDP governors cannot remain silent while Nigeria’s democracy, built over nearly three decades, is undermined.
“Yesterday, the PDP Governors’ Forum rose from an emergency meeting where we unanimously decided to challenge the actions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a court of competent jurisdiction,” he stated.
Makinde described the suspension of Rivers State’s executive and legislative arms by the presidency as an illegality that right-thinking Nigerians must resist.
The governor, who is known to be an ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—one of the key figures in the Rivers political crisis—insisted that it was crucial to oppose any move that threatens the nation’s democratic growth, even if it means standing alone.
