Nigerian women blame Tinubu over bride price hike

Nigerian women have taken to social media to express their frustration over the country’s worsening economy, calling on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action.
In a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), women lamented the rising cost of living, insecurity, and fuel prices, highlighting how these economic hardships have made it increasingly difficult for men to afford marriage expenses, including bride price.
One of the women, voicing her frustration, wrote: “When you’re silent, people assume you’re fine, but we are suffering in silence. We need change. We’re tired; please do something.”
She went on to describe the economic strain, stating: “No place is safe anymore—you can be kidnapped in your own home. How can a liter of fuel cost ₦1,000? I feel for taxi drivers, Bolt, and Indrive operators—it’s tough for them.”
The woman also decried the skyrocketing cost of food, saying: “I can’t believe I’m paying ₦2,500 for ‘mama put.’ How did a plate of roadside food become so expensive? We’re exhausted. Even women aren’t getting married anymore because men can’t afford to pay bride price.”
The post quickly gained traction, drawing reactions from netizens who shared similar concerns about the nation’s economic challenges and their impact on daily life.
