Rivers sole administrator appoints Wike’s ally to head waste management agency

In a move that has stirred fresh political debates, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ebok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has appointed Dr. Samuel Nwanosike as the new head of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA).
The appointment, which took effect on April 11, 2025, was formally announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika.
Dr. Nwanosike, a former chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, is widely recognized as a staunch loyalist of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. His appointment comes at a time when Rivers State remains embroiled in political tension, making the development a hot topic among analysts and residents alike.
While the state government has not provided specific reasons for Nwanosike’s selection, political watchers suggest that his appointment may be seen as a strategic move with potential implications for the perceived neutrality of the current administration.
As the new RIWAMA boss, Dr. Nwanosike will be responsible for overseeing the management of waste and sanitation efforts across the state—a critical role in ensuring environmental health and urban cleanliness. However, his deep political ties are already raising questions about how his leadership will impact not just service delivery, but also the broader political dynamics in Rivers State.
