Veteran Nigerian musician, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has debunked widespread rumours of his death, assuring fans that he is alive, strong, and in good health.

In a video shared on Tuesday, the 83-year-old music legend dismissed the claims with his trademark energy—breaking into a spontaneous performance that mixed Yoruba, English, and Pidgin to drive home his message.

“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka,” he sang with confidence and vigour.

Speaking further, Obey said: “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”

The rumour, which began circulating on Monday, sparked concern among fans and triggered a flurry of condolence messages across social media platforms. However, the false report was quickly addressed by his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, who appeared on TVC later that evening.

“Let’s be clear: Ebenezer Obey is alive and thriving,” Olukole confirmed.

He added that the Juju music icon had recently celebrated with his family at the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse, proving he remains very much active and present.

“These rumours are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re thankful to God for his life,” Olukole said.

The death hoax surfaced just weeks after the revered musician celebrated his 83rd birthday—a milestone that was marked with tributes from across the music industry and the Nigerian public.

Obey, who has had a profound impact on Nigeria’s music and gospel landscape for decades, once again used the power of his voice to silence misinformation and affirm his continued journey.
