VIDEO: Mixed reaction as lecturer fumes over poor attendance, vows mass failure

A lecturer at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has come under fire after a video of him threatening to fail first-year Mass Communication students went viral on social media.
In the video, the lecturer expressed anger over the low attendance in his class, claiming that out of more than 300 students, fewer than 80 showed up. He described the act as disrespectful and vowed to take disciplinary academic action.
“I’ll conduct a test, and anyone who doesn’t attend will fail — Send this video to the HOD,” the lecturer said, visibly upset.

His statement has gone viral online, with many Nigerians divided over his approach. While some users condemned his threats as unprofessional and intimidating, others sympathized with his frustration, noting that class absenteeism is a growing concern in higher institutions.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@harison: Why is he so emotional? This is incorrect. If I own the school, I will send him off, he is emotionally unstable, he shouldn’t be in charge of so many people.
@Austinesy: Oga and go seat down. You’re not qualify to be a teacher . You’re dealing with Adults. From my Evaluation, You’re not fit to be a lecturer. Over hauling all your family frustrations on students who maybe going through challenges is wrong. You coarse and Persuade students to learn not this your African mentality attitude. Lecturers dey beg us, them go still give coffee ☕️ join if you go complain for anything. Nonsense.
@nworapc: But why should they fail to attend his class?
@emmanuel kudaru: Do you know what lecturers face on a daily basis?? Him being lenient with the students will produce total rubbish, so he should do what’s right.
How I wish we have such teachers here too.
@onaolapo: Did he know maybe some of the students are finding it hard to resume School due to financial issues
@osemeilu: How na ,you have student who are not ready to learn but want to get rich without going through process .
I fear for this generation ooooo i am really scared for them oooo
@udofia: Adequate attendance to classes is a factor to passing a course. You’re right sir.
@olatunji: I support you hundred percent when it is not an online class. That is how they will collect certificate and they will not be able to deliver.
The college management is yet to issue a statement regarding the lecturer’s comments or whether disciplinary steps will be taken.
