Airtel partners with Spacex to deliver high-speed internet to subscribers

Airtel Africa has announced a groundbreaking partnership with SpaceX to provide high-speed internet access using Starlink’s satellite network, a move set to revolutionize connectivity in underserved and remote regions across the continent.
The collaboration will enable Airtel to extend internet services beyond traditional broadband infrastructure by leveraging SpaceX’s Starlink technology, especially in areas where connectivity has long been a challenge. With Starlink already licensed in 9 of the 14 African countries where Airtel operates, the telecom giant is strategically positioning itself to bridge the digital divide.
According to Emeka Oparah, Airtel Africa’s Vice President of Corporate Communications, the partnership aims to enhance enterprise services while also promoting digital inclusion across the continent. He noted that SpaceX would benefit from Airtel’s existing ground infrastructure, making the deal a win-win for both companies.
Airtel Africa CEO, Sunil Taldar, described the partnership as a bold step toward enriching lives and ensuring that reliable, affordable internet reaches even the most remote communities. “We are committed to delivering innovative digital solutions, and this alliance with Starlink is a major leap in that direction,” he said.
Chad Gibbs, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations at SpaceX, expressed enthusiasm about the deal, highlighting Airtel’s expansive footprint in Africa as key to accelerating Starlink’s coverage. “With Starlink already active in over 20 African markets, this collaboration will enable us to bring our services to more people than ever before,” he said.
The partnership is expected to significantly benefit schools, healthcare centres, businesses, and rural households that have struggled with reliable internet access, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to expanding digital connectivity across Africa.
